While others were chatting and walking up effortlessly, I was gasping for air. My heart was pounding against my chest, sweat was pouring down, and I had to stop every few minutes just to catch my breath. I was panting uncontrollably.
I was a young doctor. I was supposed to be the one promoting health. Yet, there I was, struggling to climb a flight of stairs that people older than me were navigating with ease.
It was a humiliating moment, but it was also the wake-up call I desperately needed.
At that time, the numbers on my medical reports were just as scary as my lack of stamina:
- Body Weight: Over 84 kg (which is obese for my height).
- Diagnosis: Dyslipidemia (High Cholesterol) and Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (Grade 1).
I was a classic example of the “Unhealthy Doctor.” I realized that if I didn’t take control of my own biology, I was heading toward a future of diabetes, hypertension, and lifelong medication.
So, I made a decision. I didn’t join a fancy gym. I didn’t hire a celebrity trainer. I didn’t starve myself. Instead, I used my medical knowledge to design a scientific, sustainable approach to healing my body.
The result?
In one year, I lost 19 kg.
But more importantly, my next blood test showed normal cholesterol levels, and my ultrasound confirmed that my Fatty Liver was completely reversed—all without taking a single pill for it.

This is becoming an epidemic in Kerala. Why? Because our traditional diet, while delicious, can be incredibly heavy on carbohydrates (rice, tapioca, wheat) and sugar. When we combine this high-carb intake with a sedentary lifestyle (sitting in offices or clinics all day), our liver starts storing that excess energy as visceral fat.
The Decision to Fight Naturally
I knew the medical textbooks inside out. I knew the protocols. But I also knew that lifestyle diseases require lifestyle solutions, not just chemical ones.
I didn’t want to just suppress the symptoms with pills. I wanted to fix the root cause. I wanted to reverse my condition and reduce cholesterol naturally.
I realized that if I couldn’t heal myself, I had no right to preach health to my patients. That was the moment my mindset shifted. It wasn’t about looking good in a shirt anymore; it was about saving my own life.
The Strategy ✍️ How I Lost 19kg (Without the Gym)
Once I decided to take charge, I didn’t just jump into the first diet plan I found on Google. As a doctor, I treated my body like a laboratory. I experimented, I failed, and eventually, I found what worked.
Here are the three pillars that changed my life:
Pillar 1: Cracking the Diet Code (The Kerala Context)
I started by experimenting with popular global trends. I tried the Keto Diet and Intermittent Fasting (IF). While they had their benefits, I realized something important: strict Keto is incredibly difficult to sustain in a typical Malayali household where rice and tubers are the main course.
I didn’t want a “crash diet” that I would quit in a month. I needed a lifestyle.
So, I developed a system that blended the science of fasting with our local food culture.
- Modified Intermittent Fasting: I stopped grazing all day. I gave my body a 14-16 hour window of rest (fasting) to lower insulin levels and switch to fat-burning mode.
- The Plate Rule: I didn’t give up rice completely, but I drastically changed the ratios. Instead of a mountain of rice with a side of curry, my plate became 50% vegetables, 25% protein (Fish, Eggs, Chicken), and only 25% carbohydrates.
- Cutting the Hidden Sugars: I eliminated the bakery snacks and sugary tea that are staples in Kerala.
This customized low-carb, protein-rich approach became the foundation of what I now teach in my courses.
Pillar 2: Movement (My “Orbitrek” & NEAT)
I knew I wouldn’t stick to a gym membership. Between my clinic and my family, I didn’t have 2 hours to travel and work out.
